Creative Therapy

“Therapy? I don’t need that. The roles that I choose are my therapy.”

Angelina Jolie

Music is so therapeutic for me that if I can’t get it out, I start feeling bad about myself – a lot of self-loathing.

For me, Creativity is a lot like a pressure valve on life. Every time I make something, be it music or art or through writing, the pressure releases and I feel better about my day.

On the days when I have less time to give to creating, i can feel the difference. My bodies more tense. I’m crabby and short. I feel more overwhelmed and anxious. And it’s on days when I’m feeling completely overwhelmed, almost to the point of mental paralysis, I eventually realize ‘oh, I haven’t picked up my guitar in a while’ or ‘oh, I’m not giving time to creating’.

We all need an outlet. Something that allows us to play, slow down and see the world, and take a second to remember what matters most to us.

Making stuff can give you that.
Whatever that looks like for you, whatever you are drawn to.

Or therapy works too.
