Hard things are worth it, but how do you know?
How do you know if what you are spending all this time and energy doing is worth doing?
How do you know if it’s the right thing for you?
Knowing when it’s time to let it go (whatever it is — relationships, job, habits … —) and move on, and knowing when to holdfast and never let go, really comes down to two things:
1. You.
To understand if something is worth it, you have to understand yourself.
… at least enough to know what you want to say yes and no too.
What we are talking about here is your life. A life among many, to be sure. Everyone feels some type of pressures in their life.
How are you feeling?
When you wake up in the morning, are you excited about the day?
When you go to bed at night, do you feel good or worn down?
When you are driving home from work, or leaving the coffee shop with your friend, or look at the before and after of the thing you are wondering about, are you happy?
Does it make you feel good? Does it make you feel good tomorrow?
2. Why
Why are you doing what you do?
What’s the force behind the action?
What’s the state in your life that the action creates?
By understanding you, and understanding why you do what you do, you have the power to probe yourself with questions, and pepper your way towards finding the answer.
Is it worth it? You tell me.
